The South African based humanitarian group Gift of the Givers, has been one of many organisations responsible for shipping relief aid to the thousands of Somalis who are still battling with the aftermath of what has been noted as one of the worse droughts & famine in 60 years. With the disaster reaching crisis mode, thousands of Somalis have reportedly fled the country to seek refugee in camps located in Ethiopia and Kenya.
The UN (United Nations) and World Food Programme, have set up emergency food & medical centres to assist the victims of the famine. However concerns continue to grow over the influx of Somalis in camps that are not built to accommodate the number of arrivals.
Dieticians and South African doctors will be located in Somalia for a week long stay as they will assist with medical aid and malnutrition. A plea has been launched to all South Africans and members of the global community to assist with any form of contributions that will help with the Somalian community in this time of need.
